Serena’s 53 Tricks

My dog, Serena, deserves 12 monthly doses to prevent heartworm. She was rescued at 4 months old from a person who was shooting her with a BB gun everytime she barked. At 5 months old, I started training her to be a service dog for My Angel With Paws.

At first she was scared of everything and thought that every person was going to hurt her. I soon found that she was very smart and loved to learn. Through training and good experiences Serena was able to overcome her fears and become a very well trained service dog. I made the attached video of Serena when she was 1 and a half. Now at 2 and a half she knows about 60 to 65 commands.

Before becoming a service dog, her hips were x-rayed and it was found that she had artritis and the ball and socket of her left hip didn’t match up. She could not be placed with someone with disablities for fear she wouldn’t be able to work for very long.

She was released to me to become an ambassador for My Angel With Paws. As a service dog ambassador, it is her job to educate the public about what service dogs can do and why they are important for people with disabilities. She has done demos for rotary clubs, daisy troupes and various stores in the area. She has also helped trained people with disablities how to work with a service dog before they get one of their own. She is an unbelievable asset to the organization and my constant companion. She is a once in a life time dog and deserves to have the very best hearworm protection.
