New Pet Product from BarkWorld 2011 – LeashLocket

Last weekend I attended BarkWorld 2011 in Atlanta. It was an awesome time learning of new innovations in the pet industry. An interesting one that I found was a product for dogs called LeashLocket.

I was given a LeashLocket to try out on my own dogs. Here’s a video of how it works:

When I put it on Dutchy – the Siberan Husky – it worked great. The weight didn’t bother him – and he’s a dog park addict, so I could see this being used a lot with him.

Secondly, I tried it out with my Lucille, an American Bulldog. She seemed to be a little perturbed by the extra weight on her collar, even though the packaging said that it only weighed four ounces. But, after a time of wearing it on her collar she acted as if her collar always felt that way. She got all excited about being on a “leash” and was ready to take a walk – RIGHT NOW!

I’d recommend that the LeashLocket be used on the mid-sized or smaller dogs. I don’t often take my dogs to the dog park, since I have almost an acre of fenced yard for my dogs. But, we do take the dogs for a swim down by the lake and this would be the perfect thing to have on the dogs collars – it wouldn’t get in the way (like leashes tend to do) and it would be handy for the end of the “fun” when we have to head home.

The LeashLocket company is located in Colorado and they donate a portion of each sale to shelters to help abused and neglected animals. The leashes sell for approximately $35 each, which would make me think twice about the purchase.

Let me know what you think about this idea. Here’s their website for more information, if you’re interested:
